***unfortunately thepsychologistsdiary will only be publishing 2 episodes. The rest of our narrative arc will be provided below within our season scripting as amends to our listeners***
Inspired by a rumour of a fourth-floor at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary, we decided to create an action-packed fictional murder mystery podcast series. Our podcast contains 6 episodes lengthening about 15 minutes each. In the story set at our school, there is a mysterious fourth floor that connects to the 1950s, which serves as the story's backdrop. Our main characters discover that there is a murderer that sends the victims he killed into the past to cover his tracks. They then embark on an exhilarating journey of tracking him down. The podcast will be formatted with 3 timelines; Megan Souza writing in her diary, the scene with Hana and Dr. Souza; where Hana is being counselled, and the main story with Hana and Cass’s adventures. Different from other storytelling podcasts, our podcast is targeting a specific community: the students of Sir Winston Churchill. It is unique in a way with our own experience based on the story. This season scripting will include the narrative arc for the whole podcast.
In the first episode of our podcast, we introduce our characters and the setting of the story. Megan was the hardest character to develop. She seems like she doesn't have a big role in the story because she is like the listener and narrator. But this character is actually the one that ties everything together in the end. Hana, is a bright, caring, and brave character, she is motivated by the unknowns and mysteries in life. She is determined to explore everything that makes her curious and she expresses all her thoughts and feelings. Cassandra on the other hand, although she likes discovering the truth, she is very cautious compared to Hana and carefully thinks before she acts Their opposite personalities lead the story in an interesting way. The first episode ends with Hana and Cassandra finding a murderer dumping a body into a mysterious door that leads to another world. And in the second episode, they investigate the mysterious world and realize that the door leads to 72 years into the past. This concludes the exposition or the introduction to the podcast.
Episodes 3 to 5 would demonstrate the rising action of the podcast. Although we didn’t mention the name, Callie is introduced in the second episode as a random student in the class. Because they were sitting near each other, Hana, Cassandra, and Callie decide to do a group project together. Another character, Dawson, asks if he could join them, and the story goes on with the group projects they do together and Hana and Cass’s constant investigations of the past. The more they investigate the murderer, the more they became suspicious of Dawson. Dawson was psychologically damaged as a child, and after an incident in which his father murdered his mother, he developed a fixation on women who resembled her. As a result of his complex childhood traumas and abuse in the past, Dawson develops an obsessive possession over Cass.
His plans to make Cass his “mom” kept failing because Hana was always in his way. This made him furious, so he decided to get rid of Hana. The fifth episode ends with Dawson kidnapping Hana after tricking her into meeting up for a rehearsal for One Acts.
The very last episode deals with the climax and the resolution. Dawson holds Hana hostage and takes her to 1950 where he plans to kill her. When Cass finds out about this, she also travels to 1950 as well. There, Cass tries to stop him, and in the process, Dawson lights the place on fire. Eventually, Cass sends Hana back to the present while she tries to keep Dawson in the past. As the structure crumbles, the wormhole is fractured and Cassandra is trapped in the past in the burning building. Hana cries out in sorrow at the loss of her friend and the scene transitions to the resolution where Dr. Souza says farewell to Hana as their final consultation ends. The story concludes with Dr. Souza on the phone, revealing the series' biggest twist and tying the story together; on the phone is her grandmother Cassandra.
This season scripting included the narrative arc for the podcast. We introduced the characters in our podcast, and the basic background of the story. Even though we won't be able to record the rest of the podcast, we wanted to give our audience a taste of what was to come by introducing an eventful action sequence within our rising action, as well as a suspenseful ending.
